Sales Areas: Costa Almeria
The province of Almeria is situated in the south east of the Spanish peninsula and borders with the provinces of Granada and Murcia. In all, this province covers 8774 square kilometers with a population of 425,000 inhabitants, of which 145,000 live in the capital city, also named Almeria.
The province of Almeria comprises of a great many geographic contrasts, including long beaches with small coves, desert areas and others with varied vegetation, and high mountains with extensive plains. The passing of time has also had a great influence on the landscape. In Almeria it is therefore possible to find modern and bustling tourist centers as well as those natural areas where man has scarcely left his mark. Almeria enjoys a warm and dry Mediterranean climate, with little rain and a large number of hours of sun per year.
This province is the hottest in Andalucia with an average of more than 3,100 hours of annual sunshine (which is more than in any other part of the Mediterranean), lasting from well before Easter into November, particularly noticable in the area around Nijar. It is no coincidence that Europe's most powerful telescope has been installed here, on the outskirts of the small town of Gergal, as well as the most important solar energy plant.
